We traveled two full days before the tour started. This was to give us travel time and the chance to experience a few things not included in the Rick Steves tour. When we arrived at the airport we were early, so we had a nice flight of wine and a charcuterie board.

This set the tone nicely for our European trip!
After an 11 hour plus flight, we arrived at Munich Airport. The Airport center is massive.

Thankfully Rick's instructions on where to get on the train helped immensely!
After walking to the underground, we boarded the S-Bahn train to Herrsching
It was a nice smooth train ride to our station. Then we followed Rick's walking directions to our hotel. It was conveniently located, walking distance to the city center! We stayed at the Hotel Excelsior, Munich.
After checking in we walked around the city center to get our bearings. The architecture is beautiful!

This is a scale model of the city which is still accurate with the larger landmarks.
This is the Frauenkirche Church Munich. The spires are visible from pretty much anywhere in the city center. so it makes finding your way around easier if you us it as a landmark.
We stopped for lunch at Augustiner Klosterwirt, steps from the front of Frauenkirche Church Munich where we, of course, had to order some authentic German bratwurst, with sauerkraut. (The sauerkraut was not my thing, but the bratwurst were amazing!)
After a hearty lunch we continued wandering the city center. Walking through the Odeonsplatz. We visited the Feldherrnhalle monument.
Theatine Church
Perseusbrunnen, entrance to the museum at the Munich Residenz
The Munich Residenz has some VERY large doors!
The jet-lag was real at that point, so we headed back to the hotel !
